Welcome to Ray Flatt’s Weekly BubbaGram Wednesday July 5, 2006 Uncle Jeb just got back from a special Farmers/Rancher Conference held in Washington, DC. At the conference they had representative farmers/ranchers from all the 50 states seated in state alphabetical order. Thus, Uncle Jeb being from Tennessee was seated right next to a rancher from Texas. The Texan struck up a conversation with Jeb by asking, "How big is your farm down in Tennessee?" Jeb replied, "140 acres with half of it being prime flat river bottom land. The other half is beautiful Tennessee mountainside. What about your place down in Texas?" The Texan pumped up with pride and responded, "Just imagine getting up before daybreak. I make myself a little sack lunch of jerky and sourdough bread. Then I get in my ol' pickup truck and drive it west as hard as that truck will go. I stop around noon when then sun is high in the sky right above me. Find me a rare shade tree, sit down for a spell and I eat that sack lunch. Then I get back in that truck and continue west driving all afternoon watching the sun go down. Just about sunset I reach the edge of my ranch. You know what I mean?" Uncle Jeb said, "Yep, I know what you mean. I used to have an ol' truck just like that." ------ Speaking of trucks, I saw BubbaJoe the other day driving a new pickup truck. Knowing that BubbaJoe doesn't have much money, I asked him how and where he got that new truck? He told me the following tale: BubbaJoe started, "I've been dating that sweet pretty gal Bobbie Jean that works down at the truck stop. She came by my house on Sunday afternoon to take me for an afternoon drive in this new pickup truck. Before I knew it, she was driving us to a secluded spot down by the river bank." BubbaJoe continued, "She parked that truck and we got out. She started to proceed to tell me how much she appreciated big handsome country boys like me. Before I knew it she took off her clothes, folded them placing them on the ground beside the truck, and she was leaning back on the fender of the truck." Bobbie Jean staring at BubbaJoe then whispered, "BubbaJoe, take what you want." BubbaJoe responded, "I quickly analyzed the situation. I knew them clothes wouldn't fit me, so I took the truck instead." ----- You know, it's often said that it's not the destination but the journey that matters. Even if you drive an ol' truck, take time to eat lunch under a tree, frolic by the riverside, watch the sunset and don't miss the obvious. Don't be so concerned about the destination or the vehicle that gets you there. Just enjoy the ride. BubbaRay says "Keep on Truckin." ------- Bubba-ism of the week - "Most people will be as happy, as they decide to be." ----- That's all from BubbaLand, talk to ya next week.
